Het begin
van de jaren 80. We keken naar Koot & Bie, die met de term
doemdenken de tijdgeest van een label voorzagen. Joy
Division hoorde daarbij. Ik weet nog waar ik was toen ik deze LP voor het eerst hoorde. Het
maakte een verpletterende indruk (de mooiste muziek wordt sowieso gemaakt tussen je 20ste en
30ste).
De clip hier beneden is van een ander nummer
(Shadowplay) van een ander album (Unknown Pleasures), en zal zo'n beetje het eerste TV-optreden
geweest zijn van Joy Division (het is uit 1978). Laatst hoorde ik een aankondiging van dit nummer
op de radio: "Acting out your own death knowing no more, sombert de zanger". Goede
samenvatting.
